HR1413 filed by Representative Joseph Crowley NT would allow those who retire on a public service pension to subtract up to $3,000 of their health care premiums or long term care premiums from their pension prior to the pension being federally taxed. Depending on the tax bracket one is in, this would mean anywhere from $300 to over $600 less a retiree would pay in federal taxes.

This bill is known as HELPS 2 and is a copy of the original HELPS Bill that already allows those retired on a public safety pension this benefit. Also all those still working get to subtract ALL their health care premiums from their salary prior to the salary being federally taxed. Ask you Congressman to sign on to co-sponsor HR1413
